Kong (or for that matter, anything) can be a bit complicated if you don’t know the terms associated with it. Let’s get introduced to the basics of Kong.
Services are your upstream services. Now, there is a concept in kong called as Upstream. This thing (Services) are a bit different from Upstreams and should not be confused with. You can think of Services as Microservices which expose an API. Every service is associated with an IP address or a hostname where the service lives. So you can think of services as individual machines where API backends are running.
Routes are rules which allow Kong to redirect requests to different services
